Getting society closer to science, creating scientific vocation and making interaction easier between the audience and scientists are the main goals of the 15th edition of the Live Research Fair, which will take place in CosmoCaixa Barcelona from the 3rd to the 6th of May.

The event is co-organized by the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) and the Obra Social "la Caixa", with the support from the Barcelona City Council and the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT).

This year, the Fair will gather a total of eleven research groups from around Catalonia to show the audience about the protocols and experimental methodologies linked to their research projects.

Protecting the most threatened raptor birds in the Mediterranean ecosystems, discovering the world of geology around the streets of Barcelona using an app, testing nanoparticles to see whether they are able to fight cancer, collaborating in a 3D reconstruction of a protohistoric village are some of their proposals.

The opening ceremony has taken place today, with the attendance of the Rector of the UB, Joan Elias; the CEO of the Barcelona Science Park, Ignasi Belda; the Director of the Research and Knowledge Area of "la Caixa" Banking Foundation, Jordi Portabella; and the Director of CosmoCaixa, Lluís Noguera.

Once more, the three winners of the BATX2LAB program- aimed at secondary education students who work in PCB for their research project- will be in the Fair to talk about their experience.

The Live Research Fair lies within the dissemination of the Research in Society program in PCB, which offers more than a hundred activities in which more than 5.000 people take part. In the last edition more than 1.500 visitors enjoyed the chance of participation in science experiments thanks to the collaboration of 75 researchers.
