Organized by AseBio and the Government of Navarra through the public company Sodena, the Green Innovation Forum will gather nearly 300 professionals in Pamplona (Navarra) on November 19 to discuss the opportunities biotechnology offers as a key tool in the transition toward a more sustainable, carbon-neutral, and greener economic model.

Since its inception, the Green Innovation Forum has been firmly committed to achieving the objectives set forth in the 2030 Agenda and in Spain’s and the European Union's recovery plans, including the "Green Deal." In its fifth edition, the Green Innovation Forum 2024 provides a unique meeting point for Spanish and international companies and research institutions at the forefront of green biotechnology. With over 140 registered participants, we are on track to surpass 300 attendees.

According to Mikel Irujo, Minister of Industry, Ecological Transition, and Business Digitalization of the Government of Navarra and president of Sodena, "this event is a meeting point for companies, research centers, and investment agents. It is therefore a forum that facilitates contact and synergy generation, which can lead to collaboration and investment in biotechnology and sustainability—both strategic areas for Navarra. We also look forward to discussing Navarra’s plans regarding synthetic biology. Ultimately, the goal of this event is to promote the transition to a more sustainable economic model that prioritizes responsible food production, clean energy, and a circular economy. These priorities are reflected in the Smart Specialization Strategy for Sustainability (S4), which outlines the roadmap for Navarra’s sustainable development leadership by 2030."

The Green Innovation Forum program will focus, through a series of lectures featuring a diverse group of experts, on key topics for the green transition, with biotechnology as an essential component. Subjects include challenges such as the role of -omics technologies applied to nutrition and food tech; the challenges and future of synthetic biology; biotechnology’s role in soil protection; regulatory challenges posed by new genomic editing techniques; pathways to a carbon-neutral world; and the importance of collaboration and transfer within the bioeconomy, among others.

A key part of the event will revolve around generating new business and investment opportunities, offering a partnering platform to facilitate meetings among attendees and a chance to present innovative projects: nearly a dozen companies will showcase their business plans to an audience of professional investors.

The Green Innovation Forum 2024 is a must-attend event for companies, foundations, and the academic sector within the biotechnology field, as well as for businesses and institutions from other industrial sectors in areas such as sustainable agriculture, food innovation, and green energy. It is an ideal space for all companies, entities, or institutions interested in Spain’s green economy sector to discover the latest trends and innovations.

"In its fifth edition, the Green Innovation Forum has established itself as a leading event for understanding how biotechnology is becoming a key tool in advancing toward a sustainable economic model, addressing critical challenges such as climate change, sustainable food, clean energy, and industrial transformation," says Rocío Arroyo, president of AseBio. "Additionally, the Green Innovation Forum serves as an ideal space to connect with industry, academia, investors, and the public sector, generating new business and investment opportunities in an ideal setting like Pamplona, renowned for its innovation in biotechnology and sustainability," she concludes.
