BIOMAR Microbial Technologies is a biotech company founded in 1996, devoted to Marine Microbiology and Natural Products Chemistry.
Marine biodiversity is assumed to be higher than terrestrial, although marine studies have been underrepresented for decades due to the technical difficulties in bioprospecting the ocean.
Our goal is to discover, develop and produce new compounds and products of industrial interest.
The company strategic vision relies in two fundamental concepts: INNOVATION AND SUSTAINABILITY.
We offer a unique combination of both products and services based on marine microorganisms and the compounds they produce.
The diversity of our libraries, our team technical excellence and our large experience in the design and performance of research projects, have been the basis of our success in the development of products and processes in three major industrial sectors: Human Health and Cosmetics, Agriculture and Food Industry.
Research and Development
Our main activity is the design and performance of research and development projects, combining advances on our internal programs and our partners’. We ground our activities in our wide experience in microbiology, screening development and natural products chemistry.
Many years of experience in fine tuning and executing in vitro and complex system bioassays allow us to successfully perform screening services totally adapted to our client’s needs.
Furthermore, we identify microorganisms, both prokaryotes and eukaryotes, in our microbiology laboratories using molecular biology techniques.
Isolation of different strains is a major strength of our microbiologists. Their skills allow us to identify microorganisms from any type of substrate, being particularly useful in cases of samples suspicious of being contaminated.
This experience applies as well to the structural elucidation of organic compounds obtained that, with more than 1.000 structures, including more than 200 new entities, differentiate our service of characterization of pure organic compounds besides their origin: synthesis or natural products.
Compound catalog
Our compound library contains more than 1000 pure compounds of natural origin, all of them available under request.
Our stock compounds catalog includes around 300 pure natural products immediately available for shipping in variable quantities, from 5 mg to grams depending on the item.
We are continuously working in adding new entities and better purities to our library, therefore our catalog is continuously updated.
Production Plant
We are specialists in the development of fermentation methods and downstream processes for obtaining high purity molecules, guaranteeing a quick and efficient service.
We count with a brand new pilot plant, with a maximum fermentation capacity of 300 L, growing to 3.000 L in one year. The new plant will comply for GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) certification, ensuring the reproducibility and quality of API (Active Principal Ingredient) and pharmaceuticals.
Agriculture
The development of new sustainable and effective biostimulants and biopesticides, field in which we have been very successful, is one the strategic foundation for the next few years. In order to bring these products to the market, we are looking for collaborators with distribution and registration capacities, with interest in launching new and effective products.
Production
On the other hand, we look for potential clients with novel production projects for our brand new plant, that offers a agile, versatile and competitive service. Our wide services include fermentation processes and biomass recovery, as well as extraction and purification of active molecules with added value. And all, performed and managed by a multidisciplinary team with a wide experience in scale-up projects.
Libraries
Our unique and diverse libraries are an excellent source of novel chemistry and unique bioactivities. Either extracts or pure compounds are available to be incorporated to either therapeutic target determination projects or natural origin solutions.
