BCN HEALTH developed an analysis of productivity losses due to Hodgkin's and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in Spain between 2008 and 2017. This analysis was based on the human capital method, which assesses the contribution to national productivity that is lost when there is a premature death. For this purpose, data on mortality due to Hodgkin's lymphoma and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in Spain were extracted from the National Institute of Statistics (INE). Average wages and unemployment rates by sex and age group were also obtained and taken into account for the final calculation.

Hodgkin's lymphoma was responsible for 2,403 deaths in the ten years of the study, while 26,660 deaths were attributed to non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The number of lymphoma-associated deaths increased gradually over the study period, with 97,069 potential years of working life lost. Hodgkin's lymphoma generated losses of 255 million euros over the ten-year study period, while non-Hodgkin's lymphoma was responsible for losses of more than 1.1 billion euros. Productivity losses decreased over the study period due to the increasing age of the deceased.
