Job Description
The Integrated Photonics Engineer at Bioherent will be responsible for the development and design of optical and photonic systems required for the company’s photonic biosensors. In this role, you will be required to lead process development and design to create commercial versions of the products, working in a fab-less environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Electromagnetic design of passive integrated optical devices in silicon platforms (waveguides, fiber-to-chip coupling, power splitters). Modelling of integrated photonic systems based on such devices, including details studies of the impact of fabrication tolerances. Design of test structures.
- Interfacing with external foundries regarding design rules, process tolerances, and mask layout requirements, ensuring the smooth production of the chips, from prototype to mass production of the biosensor.
- Designing the required masks (reticles) for fabrication.
- Optical testing of both test structures and full integrated photonic systems, to assess performance and possible design improvements to enhance yield while meeting all applicable specifications. This includes the design and realization of specific opto-electro-mechanical measurement setups.
- Design discrete optical systems (based on free space elements, such as polarization filters, lenses, etc).
- Ability to interface with the electromechanical, microfluidics, chemical and clinical teams in close collaboration and implement first prototypes of the in-vitro diagnostic device.
- Master or PhD in Electrical/Telecommunication/Photonic Engineering or Physics.
- At least 2 years of experience in photonic design and fluent use of typical simulation tools, e.g., Lumerical, RSoft, Fimmwave.
- Experience in scripted mask layout, e.g., Nazca-Design.
- Well-versed in MATLAB, R or Python.
- Experience with optical instrumentation and opto-mechanics for the characterization of integrated photonic devices and systems.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
Preferred Skills
- Deep knowledge and experience in the design of optical system and subsystem assemblies, especially for input / output coupling.
- Clean-room experience, particularly waveguide fabrication techniques.
- Basic knowledge in CAD Software (Alibre, Solidworks, etc.)
We are looking forward to your application, please send it to contact@bioherent.com
